In 1958 when NASA was formed, it was tasked by congress to disseminate knowledge from research and development to us
here on earth. Take away the rockets and astronauts, you basically have just a research and development company. Of course
without them, NASA would not have much to research or develop with!
Out of a $2.4 trillion budget, less than 0.8% is spent on the entire space program. That's less than one penny for every
dollar spent! It has been estimated by U.S. space experts that for every dollar that is spent on research and development
in the space program, it receives seven dollars back in the form of corporate and personal income taxes from increased jobs
and economic growth. Bottom line? NASA is good for our economy!
